Mutations

The notion of images as species is interesting. This allows us to remove value judgments from criticism and form new methods of classification. Would this method remove content analysis and if as image-makers if we are just vessels through which these images flow how important is it what we make? Maybe the creation of new “species” (at least looking back to the history of art) relies on making what hasn’t been made. But how the hell does one go about making an image that in its original form holds no immediate discourse with its predecessors? It seems to me like mutation is the answer. The creation of a new species of image through the information of a previous genus.
